The Illustrated Alphabet was a multi-year project I worked on while I was in college. My advisor, who was also the drawing instructor, asked me if I’d like to do an alphabet with creatures bending in the shape of letters. I didn’t like that idea since I’d already seen several other artist do that, mostly using people in sports.
I decided to do it my own way.
It was also a good exercise to try and draw 26 “pages” of illustrations and try to keep them as similar to each other as possible – something book illustrators know all too well. I started in the middle of the alphabet and alternated my way to the top and bottom. But, since it took several years to complete, my illustration style changed a bit, so you’ll see how the middle letter forms are less colorful than the outer ones.
